Vienna Airport bus FAQs

I arrive late at the airport. Will it be a problem for me to get to the city?

No, the airport is well connected to the city centre. You have many lines available throughout the day, but if you still don’t catch any of it, you can always take a taxi service.

I have an early morning departure from the airport, are there any airport hotels I can stay at?

Yes, NH Wien Airport is at the distance of 0.6 km.
If you don’t like that hotel, a bit further (2.7 km) are two other: EuroHotel Airport Vienna and Azimut EuroHotel Airport Vienna.

I would like to spend one day in Vienna in between flights. Is that possible?

Yes, of course. The best way to do so is to choose one of the means of public transportation to avoid high taxi prices.
If you don’t want to carry your luggage with you, you can easily leave it at the airport since there are two baggage service centres at the airport, located in the check-in areas of terminal 1 and terminal 3, opened from 05:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

If I need to go to a destination which has no direct bus connection from the airport, what the best way of travelling?

If you need to travel to e.g Salzburg, Linz, Klagenfurt in Austria or international destinations like e.g Munich, Zagreb or Ljubljana you have two options.
One is to continue by train from the main train station in Vienna, other options is to continue your trip from one of the 3 major bus stations in Vienna, be aware that not all bus stations have the same connections.

Can I exchange the money at the airport to pay for my transfer?

Yes, there are several exchange offices and ATMs at the airport, working 24/7, but it would be better to exchange the money before the trip and have some euros on you since the rate will be a lot higher on the spot and no currency other than euro is accepted.

I am staying at the K and K Palais Hotel in Rudolfsplatz.
What bus should I take upon arriving to the airport?
Can I buy the Vienna Pass in airport?
Can I buy bus tickets online or better at airport?

    • Melani Grubić Mikulić   •

      Dear Fawn,

The easiest way to reach K and K Palais Hotel is to take VAL 2 train (departs every 30 mins) from the airport to Wien Morzinplatz stop. The hotel is located 300m from the stop. As for the bus tickets and Vienna Pass, we recommend buying them online.

I am arriving to Vienna in May and I have 14 hours lay over. I would like to take the opportunity to tour the city without missing my connecting flight. Any suggestions? I learnt that there is a BIG BUS hop on hop off bus which is good way to see the city for the first timer, affordable and it sounds convenient. But I do not see any information if the BIG BUS is available from the airport?

    – What is the best rout to take the BIG BUS city tour
    – Where does the BIG BUD starts from, or is it possible to catch it at any one of the 20 stops.
    – Are tickets available to purchase on board of the BUS?

    Thank you

Which is the best transport please? Scenic bus OK. If I buy the tickets on line, how do I receive them> I will not be taking my mobile phone with me.

    • Maja   •

      Dear Alan,

if referring to Grand Hotel Wien, then Express Train S7 is the most convenient option in your case. It takes you to Rennweg train station where you have to switch to train line 71 that takes you directly to your accommodation.
If buying your tickets online, you will have to be able to receive them online prior to your travel. We don’t have the detailed info on Vienna public transport, but I suppose you can print the tickets once you receive them.

    • Maja   •

yes, you can get your Vienna City Card at the airport. There are various types (24, 48 and 72 h), as well as various tickets with special offers.
The best way is to ask the information desk what are your best options.
Regarding the transport to Ottakring, you can combine CAT for the first part of your route (to Landstrasse) and then switch to a metro U3 to Ottakring.
