Slovenian airports

Slovenia currently have 3 international airports, which are located in Ljubljana, Maribor and Portoroz, but in reality flying to Ljubljana is in 99% of the case the only options. But there are plans to expand the runway at the Portoroz airport, which could make it interesting for season flights from many countries.

Ljubljana Airport –  IATA code LJU

~ 1.7 mio. passengers

The Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport ist as mentioned the Nr. 1 airport in Slovenia, the airport is located about 26 km north of the city center. From the airport there is airport bus to the city centre, travel time is about 50 minutes, other travel options you can find here. As mentioned above the airport in Ljubljana is in most cases the best option when travelling to Slovenia, especially if you are travelling to cities in the central, north or northwestern part of the country. Some of the main sights in Slovenia, Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj, The Triglav national park and the Postojna cave are fairly close to the airport.

Maribor Airport –  IATA code MBX

~ 25.000 passengers

The Maribor Edvard Rusjan Airport is located about 10 km south of the city center, travelling to and from the airport is done by either taxi or a pre booked transfer. Currently the airport is mainly used for seasonal and charter flights, which means you in most cases will have to fly to Ljubljana airport if you are going to the Maribor area, alternative travelling to Graz airport might be an options to consider.

Portoroz Airport –  IATA code POW

~ #N/A passengers

The Airport in Portoroz is located 6 km south of Portoroz, which is basically on the border to Croatia, the airport has till now been used for smaller charter, business and cargo flights, but a plan expansion of the runway from its current 1200 meters to 1800 metres could make Portoroz and attractive alternative to the airports in Trieste and Pula. Within one hour from the airport the following cities are located, Trieste, Koper, all cities on the Slovenian Adriatic coast, Umag, Novigrad, Rovinj and Porec on the Istrian peninsula.

Zagreb airport is located only 40 km from the Slovenian border, 125 km from Maribor and 150 Km from Ljubljana, so it could be used as an alternative when travelling to Slovenia.
