Airports in Vietnam

The alluring Vietnamese destinations are served by 33 airports, 12 of which are international. A lot of them are mixed public and military airports. In this guide, we will present you with most of the airports in Vietnam, including all international ones. At the end of the post, you will also find a map of all airports in Vietnam for easier navigation.

Ho Chi Minh City Airport – IATA Code –  SGN

Ho Chi Minh City International Airport, also known as Tan Son Nhat, is the largest airport in Vietnam serving the city of Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nam Bo. All Asian cities, as well as some European, Asian and Australian are served from here. The airport is served by more than 50 airlines and is a hub for Bamboo Airways, Vietnam Airlines and VASCO. Its Hanoi – Ho Minh route is among the busiest in Asia and the world. Moreover, the airport is located 6 km north of the centre (District 1) of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). As for getting to the city, there are official taxi companies offering a ride in front of the domestic terminal (Sasco) and both inside (Mai Linh) and outside of the international terminal.

Hanoi Airport – IATA Code – HAN

Hanoi International Airport, also known as Noi Bai, is the main airport serving Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi. It is also the second busiest airport in the country and the one with the biggest total capacity. There are 47 airlines operating at the airport, and the airport is the main hub for four of them: Vietnam Airlines and budget carriers Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines and Vietjet Air. Furthermore, the airport is situated in Phu Minh Commune in Soc Son district, 35 kilometres from Hanoi downtown which is a 40 min ride. To get there, you can choose taxis and minibuses, as well as public buses that connect the airport to the city’s bus stations.

Da Nang Airport – IATA Code – DAD

Da Nang International Airport is an airport serving Da Nang, which is the largest city in central Vietnam. It is the third busiest airport in the country and an important gateway to central Vietnam. It is a hub for Vietnam Airlines, while 30 other airlines serve this airport, including VietJet Air and Bamboo Airlines. Some of the more frequent domestic flights include ones to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, while international ones include ones to Bangkok, Singapore, Seoul and Kuala Lumpur. The airport is situated 2 km from the city centre which is easily accessible by taxi, motorcycle taxi or bus, which is a bit further away. 

Nha Trang Cam Ranh Airport – IATA Code – CXR

Nha Trang Cam Ranh International Airport is the main airport serving the Nha Trang area and the one that handles all flights to Nha Trang. Also, in 2019 it became the fourth busiest airport in the country. It is a hub for Vietnam Airlines, while 32 other airlines operate at the airport. It is situated on Cam Ranh Bay in Cam Ranh which is located 30 km from Nha Trang. In terms of transportation, there are several taxi companies as well as shuttle buses offering a ride to Nha Trang. The ride should last 45 minutes.

Phu Quoc Airport – IATA Code – PQC

Phu Quoc International Airport is the main international airport on Phu Quoc Island in southern Vietnam. The airport was completed in 2012, replacing the Phu Quoc Airport, which is 10 km away from the new one. The main airlines serving the airport are Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, Jetstar Pacific and AirAsia.The airport is situated 11 km from the capital Duong Dong’s city centre which is a 20 min ride by car. From the airport, the city centre can be reached by bus or taxi. Taxi companies are available outside of the terminal at the Arrival level. Also, car rental is available at the airport.

Haiphong Airport – IATA Code – HPH

Haiphong International Airport, also known as Catbi, is an airport serving Hai Phong. It is served by six airlines among which VietJet Air, Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways handle domestic flights to cities like Ho Chi Minh, Da Nang and Nha Trang. Meanwhile, international flights include those to Macau, Bangkok and Singapore and are handled by Donghai Airlines and Ruili Airlines. The airport is situated about 8km from Haiphong city centre to the southeast. To get to the town, there are taxis and motorcycles.

Vinh City Airport – IATA Code – VII

Vinh City International Airport is a small, but busy transportation hub for those travelling to Vinh City or the rest of the Nghe An Province in North Central Vietnam. Although it is called an international airport, it hasn’t had international flights yet. There are four airlines operating at Vinh Airport: Vietnam Airlines, Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines and VietJet Air. Furthermore, the airport is located just 7.5 kilometres from Vinh city downtown. This ride is around 20 minutes long and there are several taxi companies outside the airport to choose from, as well as motorbike taxis.

Hue Airport – IATA Code – HUI

Hue International Airport, also known as Phu Bai, is one of the main hubs for the central part of Vietnam. It is located 15 kilometres south of the former Vietnamese capital, Hue, in Thua Thien-Hue Province. Although it is an international airport, it hasn’t offered any international flights yet. There are five airlines operating at the airport, including Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways. Moreover, the city centre is 30 minutes away from the airport. To get there, the most convenient way of transport is a taxi, while you can also opt for a bus or book a car and a motorbike. 

Dalat Airport – IATA Code – DLI

Dalat International Airport, also known as Lien Khuong, is a domestic airport serving the city of Da Lat. It is situated in Lam Dong Province, 30 kilometres south of Da Lat. There are 8 airlines operating at the airport, including Vietnam Airlines, Korean Air and AirAsia. The busiest flights are those to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, while international ones include Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok and others. Moreover, the airport is located in Duc Trong District, which is a 40-minute car ride from Da Lat downtown. To get there, you can choose a shuttle bus or a more convenient way, a taxi.

Banmethuot Airport – IATA Code –  BMV

Banmethuot Airport, also known as Phung-Duc, is a domestic airport serving the city of Buon Ma Thuot in Dak Lak Province. There are four airlines operating at the airport: Vietnam Airlines, Bamboo Airways, Pacific Airlines and VietJet Air. The distance between the airport and Buon Ma Thuot downtown is 9 kilometres, which is a 15-minute car ride. So, to get to the city, there are several taxi companies available outside, motorbike taxis and travel agencies’ shuttle buses. 

Qui Nhon Airport – IATA Code – UIH

Qui Nhon Airport, also known as Phu Cat, serves the city of Quy Nhon. It is a domestic airport that in 2020 received the first international seasonal charter flight. Five airlines operate at Phu Cat Airport, including Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air, while the airport is the hub for Bamboo Airways. Moreover, the airport is situated 30 kilometres away from Quy Nhon. To get to Quy Nhon downtown, the most convenient options are taxis, shuttle buses and private transfers, while the public bus stop is a bit further away from the airport. The ride should last 40-50 minutes. 

Than Hoa Tho Xuan Airport – IATA Code – THD

Thanh Hoa Tho Xuan Airport was formerly known as Sao Vang Airport. It is situated in Sao Vang town in Thanh Hoa Province, 45 kilometres from the provincial capital Thanh Hoa. To get to the city centre, which is 5 minutes away, you can opt for a taxi, a motorcycle taxi, a public and a shuttle bus.
