London Southend Airport Bus

London Southend Airport (SEN) is one of six international airports serving the city of London, and one of the fastest-growing regional airports in the United Kingdom. It is located in Rochford District in Essex, 58 kilometres from the centre of London. It has one small and modern passenger terminal and according to the statistics from 2018, more than 1.4 million passengers passed through the airport.

How to get from Southend Airport to London

Bus

Southend Airport is well connected to Southend-on-Sea by bus, but not so much with London. The bus stops are just a short walk from the main terminal. If you wish to go to London by bus you will have to first go to Stansted Airport and from there to London. This would take around 3 hours.

  • X30 – Connecting Southend Airport and Stansted Airport, it is operated by First Essex Buses. Buses run every hour, usually starting from 02:50 till midnight. The buses stop at Chelmsford where you will have to wait for the next bus to Stansted Airport. The journey lasts approximately an hour and 45 minutes and one-way ticket costs around £10.50.

There are 4 different routes from Stansted Airport to Londonthe shortest journey is 50 minutes long and one-way ticket starts at 8 £:

  • Service A6 goes from Stansted to Portman Square, with stops at: Golders Green, Finchley Road, St John’s Wood, Baker Street, Paddington, Marble Arch and Portman Square.
  • Service A7 covers the route from Stansted to Victoria Coach Station.
  • Service A8 from Stansted to King Cross, calling at: South Hackney, Bethnal Green, Shoreditch, Liverpool Street, Farringdon and King Cross.
  • Service A9 is direct service to London Stratford.

Train

Train is the smoothest and fastest way to get from the Southend Airport to London, since the airport has its own train station which is located near the passenger terminal. Trains run approximately every 20 minutes, the first departure is usually at 04:05 and the last one at midnight. The journey lasts 50 minutes and off-peak one-way tickets start at £16.70.   • You can buy the tickets at the manned ticket offices and ticket vending machines
  • The ticket office is open every day from 06.00-23.00

If you are carrying a lot of luggage or just wish to avoid the public transport, you can always get a taxi. FAQ – bus and transport from Southend Airport

I have an early morning flight from the airport. Are there any airport hotels I can stay at?

There are several options for an overnight stay near Southend Airport. You can choose from Holiday Inn Southend (just a 1 minute walk from the terminal), Premier Inn Southend Airport Hotel, The Rochford Hotel and Skylark Hotel.

I arrive late at the airport. Will it be a problem for me to get to the city?

Shouldn’t be a problem. If you miss the last train that leaves the airport at 23:05 you can always hire a taxi or a private transfer.

I would like to visit London in between flights. Is that possible?

It is possible, but to get the most of it we suggest taking a train to London, in order to get there fast and avoid traffic delays. Keep in mind that there are no luggage storages at Southend Airport.

Can I exchange money at the airport to pay for my transfer?

Yes, you can find Moneycorp change outlets before and after the security check, one in the arrivals area and another one on the lower level of the departure lounge.

Does Southend Airport close at night?

Yes, Southend Airport closes 45 minutes after the last flight (usually around midnight) and opens at 04:00.
