Stockholm Skavsta Airport is an international airport located around 100 kilometers from Stockholm. It is the fifth-busiest airport in Sweden, although only Ryanair and Wizz Air offer flights to and from the airport. There are currently on offer direct flights to 45 European destinations. The airport handles more than 2 million passengers every year. Anyway, here are the ways how to get to and from the Stockholm Skavsta Airport.
Airport shuttle bus: There is an airport bus Flygbussarna Airport Coaches operating to and from the airport. The route Skavsta – Stockholm Cityterminalen takes you right next to the central train station in Stockholm, you can purchase your tickets on company’s website or app for the best prices, but also at the ticket desks and vending machines at the airport. In last case the price is 139 SEK (~13 €) for one way and 278 SEK (27 €) for a return ticket. Buses depart hourly and the journey takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
From the airport you can also directly get to Södertälje, Linköping and Norrköping.
Since the airport is pretty far from the center of Stockholm, you will have to combine 2 means of transport in order to get to the city.
Bus & Train: To get to the center of Stockholm, the first thing is to take a local bus no. 515 (See timetable) which will take you to the railway station of Nyköping. From there, you will need to take a train to Stockholm which runs once per hour. You can buy a combined ticket (for both bus and train) which will cost you around 100 SEK (~10 €) if buying in advance. It is also possible to buy separate tickets at the airport, but that will cost you more. Also, it is always cheaper to buy the tickets via app or at the airport instead of on board. In last case, cash is not allowed. The total journey could take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
NOTE: While in Stockholm, you can make Stockholm City Pass, a sightseeing card which allows you to save some money while exploring Stockholm. Check the detailed information here.
Taxi service: If you would like to avoid the crowded public transport, consider taking a taxi but have in mind that this is the most expensive option. Regular price from the airport to Stockholm center is around 1500 SEK (160 €), and the journey takes around 70 minutes. You will find a taxi rank of various companies right in front of the terminal.
Transfer: If neither public transport nor taxi services are viable options for you, consider booking a private transfer online. We recommend you do this in advance so that your driver can already be waiting for you in front of the airport when you arrive.
Renting a car at Stockholm Skavsta airport: For those who would prefer to reach the city and explore the area on their own, the best option is to rent a car directly at the airport. At Skavsta airport you will find five different rental companies: Avis, Europcar, Budget, Sixt and Hertz. Compare their prices and book your car online.
Renting a bus at Stockholm Skavsta airport: If you are coming to Stockholm with a larger group of people, we advise renting a bus, though make sure to do so prior to your flight so that the bus company can organize everything on time.
