Katowice International Airport, a former military airbase, is an airport located in Pyrzowice, 30 kilometers from Katowice, Poland. It consists of Terminal A and B (Departures) and Terminal C (Arrivals), and it has the fourth-biggest passenger flow in Poland. In 2017, the airport handled more than 3.8 million passengers, and it generally serves as a focus city for Enter Air, Small planet Airlines, Smartwings, Travel Service Polska and Wizz Air. However, there are multiple ways in which you can get to and from the airport.
Airport shuttle bus:
- Matuszek shuttle bus: It provides transport between the airport and the main railway station of Katowice which coincides with the flight schedule of most airlines at the airport. The journey to Katowice takes approximately 35 minutes, and the ticket for one person costs 20zł (~2 €). Besides Katowice, this shuttle bus also provides transport to Krakow which takes around 2 hours and costs 40zł (9,5 €).
- PKM Katowice bus: The bus runs an everyday route between the airport and Katowice city center with the departures at hourly intervals. The price of the one-way ticket for one person is 27zł (~6 €).
- P-Air Pyrzowice Express: This is an another company that provides transfer between the airport and the main railway station in Katowice. The bus has 7 departures daily with the first one at 9:50 am and the last one at 7:50 pm. The ticket costs 21zł (5 €)
- LEO express: In case you wanna go somewhere outside of Katowice, this bus company offers direct transports from the airport to Rybnik, Gliwice, Ostrava, Częstochowa, Piotrków Trybunalski, Łódź, Toruń, Grudziądz, Gdańsk and Gdynia.
Local bus: There is no direct option to the Katowice city center when it comes local buses. There is an option of taking a bus which passes through the airport to the 2 cities of Poland – buses no. 83 and 85 take you to Bytom, and bus no. 17 takes you to Mierzęcice. From both cities it is possible to take a bus directly to Katowice.
Train: There is currently no passenger rail link to the airport but building of a railway between Katowice and the airport is being planned in the further years.
Taxi service: If you prefer a more cosy ride which takes you to your hotel doorstep, consider taking a taxi. The airport has its official company Airport TAXI Service located at exits of the terminals A and B. This is always a better option than an unlicensed taxi since the prices are regulated. The ride to the Katowice city center will cost you 160zł (40 €), but if you decide to take a ride in an unlicensed taxi, make sure you always ask about the price of your desired destination before you get in the taxi. The journey from the airport to the city center takes approximately 30 minutes.
Transfer: If neither public transport nor taxi services are viable options for you, consider booking a private transfer online. We recommend you do this in advance so that your drive can already be waiting for you in front of the airport when you arrive.
Rent a car at Katowice Airport: For those who would prefer to reach the city and explore the area on their own, the best option is to rent a car directly at the airport. Besides the well known companies such as Budget and Sixt, there are 12 more rental companies at the airport including iCar, GTL-Service, Silvercar, JOLCAR etc. Compare their prices and book your car online.
Rent a bus at Katowice Airport: If you are coming to Katowice with a larger group of people, we advise renting a bus, though make sure to do so prior to your flight so that the bus company can organize everything on time.
