Well, when the sun goes down and the moon comes up, everyone turns into a teenage Goo Goo Muck. The next thing that happens is that they dance, dance, dance with their hands, hands, hands. This is what happened to the world. And it’s all because of Wednesday.
This hit Netflix show broke all the records and completely swamped social media. And this is not the first time a Netflix show took us all by storm, look at the Stranger Things! What’s more, the fans can’t seem to get enough of it.
The first season has eight episodes, four of which are directed by Tim Burton. The other two directors are Gandja Monteiro and James Marshall.
The superstar of the series is Jenna Ortega who plays Wednesday. Other major roles include Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay, Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin, and Percy Hynes White as Xavier Thorpe.

Bușteni, Romania
Cantacuzino Castle
First and foremost – the amazing Cantacuzino Castle! This extraordinary building is the main location of the series, that is, the Nevermore Academy. It was built in 1911 and served as a summer residence of Prince Grigore Cantacuzino and his family until 1930. Later it was owned by the Ministry of Internal Affairs after which it was restored and opened to the public.
However, this architectural jewel was only used for the exterior shots. The interior scenes were mainly shot at the Palatul Monteoru House and Casa Niculescu-Dorobantu in Romanian capital.
Sinaia, Romania
Gara Regala
Gara Regala, meaning the Royal Train Station, is the train station serving Sinaia. Sinaia is a mountain town and resort located in Romania’s Bușteni region. This railway station is one of its main tourist landmarks. It was built in 1913 and it was reserved for Royal Family only. In the series, Gara Regala was used for shooting scenes at the Jericho train station.
Bălteni, Romania
Olga Greceanu Mansion
Olga Greceanu Mansion is a Neo-Byzantine style house located in the countryside, just outside Bucharest. It was featured in the scenes of the Gates Mansion. In the series, the place looks quite disturbing but, in reality, it is just an old house. That means that the crew did an excellent job transforming the surroundings of this historical monument.
Bucharest, Romania
Palatul Monteoru House
The Palatul Monteoru House is a beautiful historic house and monument. It was built in 1874. Furthermore, the house is located on Victory Avenue in downtown Bucharest, one of its busiest streets. For a while, in the mid-20th century until the early 2000s, the house served as the headquarters of the Union of Writers of Romania. Nowadays, thanks to Wednesday, it is becoming a real sensation. In the series, it was used to shoot some interior scenes of the Nevermore Academy.
Casa Niculescu-Dorobantu
Casa Niculescu-Dorobantu is another gorgeous castle-like house. Just like the Monteoru House, it was featured in interior scenes of the Nevermore Academy. Furthermore, the house was constructed in the early 1900s, in the french neogothic style. Some say it resembles a Gothic cathedral. Namely, it has some incredible construction details such as imposing windows, pointed arches, cornices, and gargoyles. Because of this, it also has a mysterious allure to it perfect for a Wednesday filming location.
Bucharest Botanical Garden
One of the most beautiful Wednesday filming locations is definitely the stunning Botanical Garden in Bucharest. It is also known as Gradina Botanica Dimitrie Brândza. However, these days it is better known as Nevermore’s verdant greenhouse. Furthermore, this astonishing work of art and nature spreads over more than 18 hectares. Also, it includes around 4,000 square meters of greenhouses. What’s more, it contains more than 10,000 flora species whose captivating beauty attracts numerous visitors each year.
Brănești and Sterbei lakes
These two scenic lakes are located just outside Bucharest. They were used to shoot scenes of the famous Poe Cup boat race in the Wednesday series. Romania is known for having an abundance of beautiful lakes and these two really lived up to that title.
The Politehnica University of Bucharest
The Politehnica University of Bucharest is one of Romania’s oldest universities. Namely, its story dates more than 200 years back. In 1818 it was the first higher technical school in Wallachia. Furthermore, the university was shown at the beginning of the very first episode of Wednesday. It was featured as Nancy Reagan High School, a place where Wednesday and Pugly shared school before she transferred to Nevermore.
Buftea, Romania
Bucharest Film Studios
When it comes to scenes that can’t be filmed in open locations, studios step in and do their magic. This time, the magic was done by the incredible Bucharest Film Studios, also known as Buftea Studios. Namely, the entire town of Jericho was constructed at the Buftea Studios. However, no, Jericho is not a made-up place. It is real and it is in Vermont, USA.
Furthermore, the complex is located near Bucharest, in the town of Buftea. Its history includes almost 70 years of cinema and more than 600 films. They offer guided tours as well as a chance to become the protagonist of a scene from a movie!
