Lille Airport (LIL), commonly known as Lille-Lesquin or just Lesquin Airport is an international airport in France, situated in the town of Lesquin, only 7 kilometres from Lille. The airport mostly serves passengers of the Nord-Pas de Calais region. The latest statistics about the number of passengers have say that over 2 million people go through the airport each year. There are year round flights from and to the airport, but most numerous flights are seasonal. They are operated by airlines like Air France, Smartwings, TUI fly Belgium and Volotea.

How to get from Lille Airport to Lille

Airport shuttle bus

Airport of Lille has its own direct bus line which connects it with Lille-Flandres Train Station.

  • The stop is located by the entrance door A, near the check-in desks and Departures area.
  • One-way ticket costs €8 and return €10 and they can be bought only directly from the driver
  • The first bus departs at 05:30 and the last one at 22:15, every hour (from Mon-Fri) – on Sat the first one is at 9:30, and on Sun at 12:30
  • The journey lasts approx. 20 minutes (depending on traffic).
  • Shuttle bus is wheelchair-accessible thanks to an electric platform at the rear doors.

Train

The airport does not have direct railway connection to the city center. However, you can reach the main train station (Gare de Lille Europe) by shuttle bus.

Taxi service

If you avoid public transportation, or if the stop of the shuttle bus is not where you wish to get out in Lille, then consider taking one of the taxis standing outside the Departures hall. The average taxi fare to the centre of Lille is around €25, but the price goes up if the ride is late at night.

Transfer

If you are not comfortable with regular taxis, maybe you should book door-to-door transfer which will wait for you at the airport. Do the booking on time, so you don’t wait a lot when you arrive at the airport.

Renting a car at Lille Airport

The best way to explore the area on your own is by renting a car. Some of the car rental companies at the airport are Sixt, Europcar, Hertz or Thrifty. To avoid the queue, rent your car online.

Renting a bus at Lille Airport

Consider renting a coach or a minibus in case you are in a larger group of people. This should definitely be done in advance because it takes time to organize the meeting, and pick-up point, with the bus rental agency.

From Lille Airport to Brussels: Vueling passengers have at their disposal free shuttle bus from Lille Airport to Brussels Midi station. Alternatively, you can always get to Brussels by train departing from Gare de Lille train station.

I arrive late at the airport. Will it be a problem for me to get to the city?

Considering the fact that you can reach the city only by shuttle bus which operates only until 22:15, it is a bit tricky to get to Lille. However, don’t worry because taxis are always available, although you will probably have to pay more than planned.

I have an early morning departure from the airport, are there any airport hotels I can stay at?

You can stay overnight at Hotel Mercure Lille Airport (4*) located 2.4km away from Lille airport or at Ibis Budget Lille Hotel (2*). Both of them have free Wi-Fi connection and free parking.

I would like to spend one day in Lille in between flights. Is that possible?

Of course it is possible, because the city centre is barely 7 km away from the airport. If you don’t want to drag around your suitcases, you can leave them at luggage storage office near the train station. Just ask for the directions at the info desk.

I am continuing my journey outside Lille. Are there any direct lines from the airport to other cities?

Besides above mentioned shuttle to Brussels, no. But once you get to the central station, you can practically visit any city you want, especially in France. Can I exchange money at the airport to pay for my transfer?

There are no money exchange offices, but you will find an ATM near the info desk in the main hall, level 2. So, the best option would be to exchange the money before your trip and have some euros on you until you get to the city centre.
