The airport is located in Gaziemir district, 18 km of city center and it is mainly used by Pegasus Airlines and SunExpress. In the recent years, it handles more than 12 million passengers annually, therefore, there are several ways of getting to and from the airport.

Airport shuttle bus: There is a direct bus line from the airport to the city operated by Havaş. There are two bus routes, one ends in Alsancak and the other one in Mavisehir. If you want to get to the center, exit at the stop ‘Alsancak Büyük Efes Oteli’. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes, the price of a ticket is 11 TL in one way.

See timetable for this route, as well as some other direct routes from the airport.

Public transport

The city of Izmir is well connected with the airport via public transport, and there are two options you can choose from.

Bus: To get to the center of Izmir you can also use the public bus, and there are three bus lines connecting the airport and parts of Izmir, no. 200, 202 and 204.

  • Line 200: Airport – Mavisehir
  • Line 202: Airport – Cumhuriyet Meydani

  • The journey for all the routes takes 45 minutes max, the price of a ticket is 3 TL.

Train: The other option is suburban train called Izban. This is the most used mean of transport between the airport and Izmir, especially because of the price. The station is located in front of the New Domestic Terminal from where you can choose between the trains to Alsancak and Aliaga. The journey takes around 30 minutes and, regarding the tickets, you can choose 2, 3 or 5 rides, 2 rides cost 7 TL and one ride can be used within 90 minutes. Check the schedule

Taxi service: If you would like to avoid the crowded public transport, consider taking a taxi but have in mind that this is the most expensive option. You can expect to pay around 60 TL for a ride to the city center. The same rates apply during the day and night, but we suggest you always agree on the price before the ride.

Transfer: If neither public transport nor taxi services are viable options for you, consider booking a private transfer online. We recommend you do this in advance so that your driver can already be waiting for you in front of the airport when you arrive.

Renting a car at Izmir Airport: For those who would prefer to reach the city and explore the area on their own, the best option is to rent a car directly at the airport. Izmir offers a really wide range of different rental companies. Compare their prices and book your car online.

Renting a bus at Izmir Airport: If you are coming to Izmir with a larger group of people, we advise renting a bus, though make sure to do so prior to your flight so that the bus company can organize everything on time.
