Airports in Ontario
Ontario province is the most populated of the Canadian provinces and territories. Therefore, obviously it is also the home province of Canada’s busiest airport, the Toronto Pearson. But this is of course not the only airport in Ontario, in fact the province has no less than 48 airports which have scheduled flights, many of the are of course small but nevertheless a considerable number. Below you can find basic information about Ontario airports as well as a map with the airports in Ontario.

Toronto Pearson International Airport – IATA code: YYZ (~ 50 M passengers)
The Toronto Pearson Airport is by far the largest airport in Canada and busiest of all Ontario airports. The airport which is located 27 km northwest of downtown Toronto, is the main hub for Canada’s largest airline Air Canada as well as for WestJet. From the Pearson Airport you can travel to more or less any large or mid sized airports in Canada, as well as to destinations worldwide. In total more than 45 airlines serve the airport. To move around the airport there is a Link train connecting Viscount Value Park, Terminal 1 & Terminal 3 this train runs every 4-8 minute non stop. The Union Pearson Express rail link connects the airport with downtown Toronto in just 25 minutes, additional there are various bus lines to Toronto suburbs and cities nearby.
Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport – IATA code: YOW (~ 5.2 M passengers)
The Ottawa Airport, is the 2nd of busiest Ontario airports and Canada’s 6th busiest airport, the airport is located 13 southeast of downtown Ottawa. Air Canada, Air Canada Express and Porter Airlines operate the most year round flights from the airport which is all to domestic destinations, American Eagle, Delta Connection has whole year flights to the US. During summer season Air Transat, Sunwing Airlines, WestJet and a few other airlines fly to a wide range of many international destinations. The airport is connected to downtown Ottawa via a public bus line No. 97 operated by OC Transpo.
Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport – IATA code: YTZ (~ 2.8 M passengers)
Also called: Toronto City Center Airport, Toronto Island Airport, Toronto/Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport
The Billy Bishop Airport in Toronto is indeed a city airport, it is located within walking distance of downtown Toronto, as the name suggest the airport is located on a island, which is connected to the mainland via a pedestrian tunnel, also is is possible to use one of the world’s shortest ferry routes, which takes you from mainland to Island in just 90 second, the ferry runs every 15 minutes. From the airport you can fly to about 20 domestic destinations operated by the airlines Air Canada Express, FlyGTA Airlines and Porter Airlines.
John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport – IATA code: YHM (~ 1 M passengers)
The Hamilton Airport is located 14 km southwest of Hamilton town center. The airlines Swoop and WestJet have whole year round scheduled flights to about 10 Canadian cities, during summer season Air Transat, Sunwing Airlines as well as Swoop has flights to destinations mainly in the Caribbean. The airport can be reached from the center of Hamilton with route Nr. 20 operated by Hamilton Street Railway (HSR). From Hamilton Airport there is 85 km to the world famous Niagara falls!
Thunder Bay International Airport – IATA code: YQT (~ 0.8 M passengers)
The Thunder Bay airport is located about 5 km west of Thunder Bay city center, Regular Scheduled flights to destinations like Toronto-Pearson, Winnipeg and other domestic destinations are operated by the airlines Air Canada, Bearskin Airlines, North Star Air, Porter Airlines, Wasaya Airways and WestJet. Sunwing Airlines has scheduled flights to Varadero, Punta Cana and Cancun from the airport. The airport can be reached with public bus number 14 (Line Arthur) which operates every 30 minutes during the daytime.
London International Airport – IATA code: YXU (~ 0.5 M passengers)
The London Int. Airport is located about 10 from the center of London, Ontario. The airlines Air Canada Express, WestJet, Swoop and WestJet Encore operate year round scheduled flights to Calgary, Montréal–Trudeau, Ottawa, Toronto–Pearson and Edmonton. In the summer season, Air Transat, Canadian North, Swoop and Sunwing Airlines operate scheduled flights to US and Caribbean destinations. Getting from and to the airport with public transportation is possible Mon – Fri with the route 36 from London Transit which drives to between the airport and the Fanshawe College.
Windsor Airport – IATA code: YQG (~ 0.3 M passengers)
The Windsor International Airport is located 11 km from the center of Windsor ON, and only 13 km from downtown Detroit, Michigan. From the airport there are whole year scheduled flights to Montréal–Trudeau, Toronto–Pearson and Toronto–Billy Bishop operated by Air Canada Express and Porter Airlines. In the season Sunwing Airlines has flights to Cancún, Montego Bay, Santa Clara, Varadero and WestJet has flights to Calgary. Transit Windsor bus Route Walkerville 8, runs frequently on weekdays between the airport and the city centre.
Sudbury Airport – IATA code: YSB (~ 0.3 M passengers)
The Greater Sudbury Airport is located 23 km northeast of Sudbury center. The two main destinations from the airport are Toronto–Pearson and Toronto–Billy Bishop, Air Canada Express and Porter Airlines operate flights to these destinations. Bearskin Airlines operated scheduled flights to smaller airports like North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins, Thunder Bay. There is no scheduled bus service from the city to the airport.
Sault Ste. Marie Airport – IATA code: YAM (~ 0.2 M passengers)
The Sault Airport is located about 18 km west of Sault Ste. Marie town center. From the airport there are scheduled flights to Toronto–Pearson, Toronto–Billy Bishop, Sudbury and Thunder Bay, these flights are operated by Air Canada Express, Bearskin Airlines and Porter Airlines. During the summer season Sunwing Airlines operated flights to London Ontario and Varadero in Cuba. There is no public transportation between the city and the airport.
Timmins/Victor M. Power Airport – IATA code: YTS (~ 0.15 M passengers)
The Timmins Airport is located 12 km north of Timmins. From the airport there is scheduled flights to about 20 domestic destinations, the two most important being Toronto–Pearson and Toronto–Billy Bishop, the domestic routes are operated by Canada Express, Bearskin Airlines, Air Creebec, Thunder Airlines and Porter Airlines. There is no public transportation between the city and the airport.
Region of Waterloo International Airport – IATA code: YKF (~ 0.15 M passengers)
The Kitchener airport is located near 4 mid sized cities, the airport is 13 km from the centre of Kitchener and 16 km from the centre of Waterloo, 20 km from the centre of Guelph and 15 km from Cambridge Ontario. From the airport FlyGTA Airlines operates a scheduled fligth to Toronto–Billy Bishop and WestJet one to Calgary, during summer season Sunwing Airlines has flights to Cancun and Punta Cana.
Sioux Lookout Airport – IATA code: YXL (~ 0.15 M passengers)
The Sioux Lookout Airport is located 4 km northeast of the town center, despite it being a fairly small airport, it has connection to almost 40 destinations, majority of them are operated with small planes by airlines like Bearskin Airlines, North Star Air, Perimeter Aviation, Slate Falls Airways and Wasaya Airways.
