Hence, it is no surprise that it is one of the top vacation destinations and one of the most instagrammable places in the world. That is why we are pasta-tive that you’re going to be amazed by what we have prepared for you.

How did we do it?
Compared to 2022, Italy is even more popular this year. You might think it is not possible for a country to get that popular, but it’s true. We checked. And then we compared the results with last year’s. Here’s how we did it, step by step.
Among different approaches to making a list of the most popular Instagram locations in Italy, we have decided to pick sights instead of cities. That is why you will find Milan Cathedral instead of Milan city on our list. Anyway, we made a list of the most popular sights by obtaining a list of over 700 attractions from the Google Travel service.
In order to define the most popular locations, we used Google reviews. However, we only considered the attractions with more than 5,000 reviews to get a more realistic outlook on the most popular destinations. Therefore, we got a list of 219 locations. The next thing was collecting the number of Instagram mentions (we used as many different mentions as possible) in both Italian and English language. Not all possible hashtags were taken into account, as users often make mistakes when tagging a location.
The number of mentions was collected in May 2023, so the numbers will naturally increase over time. In the end, we sorted the locations according to the number of mentions and got our final list of the 50 most popular Instagram locations in Italy.
Under each sight, you will also find information about the ranking compared to 2022. Of course, on the list for the year 2023 we also have several newcomers who bravely fought for their places, thereby displacing several of last year’s favorites.

It is famous not only due to its imposing structure but also due to its brutal history. Namely, it represents the origin of gladiator fights in the time of the Roman Empire. Furthermore, once inside the Colosseum, it is possible to see the subterranean passageways once used as a sort of an elevator for surprise entrances of gladiators and animals. Nonetheless, despite its blood-soaked past, the Colosseum is one of Rome’s most outstanding landmarks and definitely worth visiting.
The most popular locations in 2022 that didn’t manage to rank this year
Top 20 locations on our list of 50 most popular Instagram locations in Italy for 2023 are the same as last year, although with a few swaps between some attractions. However, the rest of the list had a few changes. That is, there are 3 new locations, which means 3 of last year’s favorites are off the list. Nonetheless, we believe they definitely deserve a mention:
