FAQ about buses in Hungary

Generally speaking, bus travel in Hungary is one of the safest forms of transportation. Therefore, you can just sit and relax and enjoy the scenery while the drivers are making sure your bus travel goes as planned.

You have many ways of purchasing the bus ticket for your journey. One of the quickest ways is to book your ticket in advance online. However, if you don’t want to use your credit card for the bus ticket purchase, you can also buy the bus ticket at the bus station or directly on the bus (provided that there are seats left).

In order to check what documents you need to bring with you when traveling throughout Hungary, it is best to check the websites of the competent authorities prior to your travel given the fact that different rules apply depending on your citizenship.

Normally, the luggage storage is charged extra, directly on the bus. Before you board the bus, you will get a receipt for each piece of luggage that you put down into the luggage compartment and you will be charged an extra amount that can vary depending on the carrier.

Unfortunately, the general answer is no as the majority of bus companies that operate departures in Hungary do not allow pets on board. However, you can always contact the carrier directly prior to your journey or check if there is a PET icon next to their departure on our website which would typically mark the ones that do allow you to carry your pet with you on the journey.

To check the rules that apply to journeys in Hungary as far as the COVID-19 restrictions are concerned, we advise you to check the website of the Ministry of Health of Hungary. You should find all the necessary information there, and if you are unable to do it on your own, you can always contact them via email address provided on the website.

It is unfortunately not possible to give a specific answer to that question, since it all depends on the carrier you’re traveling with and the bus that will operate the route on the day of your departure. Even though the majority of the bus fleet in Hungary is of a newer generation, there are still some vehicles which are not equipped with all the necessary amenities.
