Vnukovo International Airport (VKO) is one of 4 major airports serving Moscow, Russia. It is located around 28 kilometers from the city center with approximately 20 million passengers in each of the last two years. Among the airlines operating at the airport are Turkish Airlines and Wizz Air.

How to get from Vnukovo Airport to Moscow

Train

Moscow Aeroexpress connects the airport with the Kievsky railway station in the city center of Moscow. The journey lasts approximately 40 minutes and tickets cost around 500 rubles (~ 7 €), but can be cheaper if purchased online, in advance.

Bus

Public bus lines are operated by Mosgortrans and several bus lines connect the airport with metro stations from where you can continue to the city center.

  • Bus lines 911 i 272 connect the airport with Salaryevo metro station.
  • Bus line 611/611k passes the airport connecting it with metro stations Yugo-Zapadnaya, Troparyovo and Rumyantsevo.

You will find a bus station 400-500 m from Terminal A. All departures start early in the morning and finish late in the evening (the last one being at 1:30 am). The journey can last from 15 to 40 minutes, depending on the route and traffic.

You can buy tickets from the driver or at the register on the ground level with the latter being slightly cheaper. You can also buy a combined ticket for both bus and metro.

Metro

There is no direct connection between the airport and the city center of Moscow by metro. Still, in 2020, the government is planning to expand the metro line and make this connection, also making Vnukovo Airport the first airport in Moscow connected by metro.

Taxi 

There are several taxi companies at the airport and you will find them near the exit of Terminal A. Some companies don’t operate during the night, anyway, we suggest you make sure you order an official and licensed taxi, as well as always check the price before the ride.

Private Transfer

Another way to travel from Vnukovo Airport is with a private, door-to-door transfer directly to your accommodation in the city. You can pre-book a transfer for a hassle-free experience, professional driver will wait for you at the airport and take you to your destination.

I arrive late at the airport. Will it be a problem for me to get to the city?

Getting to the city center shouldn’t be a problem since the public transport operates till late in the evening. Still, if you find yourself arriving when there are no buses or trains operating, you can always order a taxi or private transfer.

Free WiFi at Vnukovo Airport is provided for 15 minutes, to get a 24 hour access, you’d need to pay around 130 rubles (~ 2 €).
