Rijeka is the third biggest city in Croatia and the biggest port.

Therefore, public transport network in Rijeka is very well developed. Namely, the city transport company is Autotrolej with 20 city lines, 33 suburban and 3 night lines which connect 12 cities and municipalities with Rijeka.

Buses are orange and they run frequently and regulary. The main bus stations in Rijeka for the city buses are Jelacic Square and Delta terminal.

Lines nr. 2, 8 and 8A connect the center with Trsat and the University campus.

Line nr. 1 connects the city stadium and the pools on Kantrida with the Tower centre (a shopping centre).

In order to meet the needs of the young people in Rijeka, the city decided to introduce free night bus lines on friday and saturday nights; these lines run along the main Rijeka roads.

In the vicinity of Rijeka there is the city of Opatija. If you want to visit it, you can use the line nr. 32 that runs from Rijeka to Opatija, Lovran and Volosko. It runs every 30 to 45 minutes and the starting point in Rijeka is Jelacic Square. However, keep in mind that there are two bus stations in Opatija: Trznica (the Market) and Slatina.

In Rijeka you can buy a single ticket for one ride, a single ticket for two rides, a daily and a weekly ticket.

If you buy a ticket from the driver it will be a bit more expensive; other than from the driver, tickets can be purchased at kiosks and Autotrolej sales points.

Single tickets purchased at kiosks have to be validated at a machine on the bus; a traveller can change buses but has to bear in mind that a ticket for zone 1 is valid for 60 minutes, zone 2 – 70 minutes, zone 3 – 90 minutes and zone 4 – 130 minutes.

Daily tickets have to be validated at a machine on the bus and it is valid for 24 hours. Once validated you can use it for an unlimited number of rides on that day, on all lines within zone 1. In addition, these tickets can be transferred to other people.

Weekly tickets are valid for an unlimited number of rides in a period of 7 days, they are not transferable, and they have a name of the person who will be using the ticket as well as the date till it’s valid.

The bus MAN Lion’s City DD is the first tourist double-decker of that kind in Croatia. The bus runs on all days of the week, including holidays, but only during the summer season. In case you decide to use this bus service you can see Rijeka, Trsat and Opatija. A ticket is valid for 24 hours and you can also use it to take a ride in any of the city buses.
