Amsterdam – London

A few years ago travelling by bus between Amsterdam and London was not that common, meanwhile that have changed, each day there are now several daily departures with comfortable long distance buses equipped with WIFI and other amenities. Most bus routes travel with the ferry from either Dunkirk or Calais to Dover, the ferry part takes about 2.5-3 hours (1 hour boarding time and 1.5-2 hour crossing time), and the total trip takes about 10 to 11 hours depending on which other cities are on the route.

When travelling from Amsterdam to London, your bus will in most cases depart from the bus stop at radarweg which is in front of the Sloterdijk train Station, in any case the exact departure location is stated on your ticket. In London the bus will arrive at the London Victoria Station, which makes it easy to continue to any location in London.

When travelling from London to Amsterdam, you bus will departure from the Victoria station, if it’s your first time travelling by bus from this station, you should be there 1 hour before scheduled departure time as it can take a bit of time to locate the spot where you have to board the bus. In Amsterdam you will exit the bus by the Sloterdijk train Station, from there you can easily continue to Amsterdam centre.

Night bus between London and Amsterdam:

In both direction there are night bus departures, when you travel from London you have about 2 hours to Dover where you have to get of the bus for the time of the crossing, arrival time in Calais / Dunkirk is about 4.5 hours after the departure from London. If you take the night bus from Amsterdam, you will be able to to sleep about 5 hours before you arrive at the ferry.

Not all buses travel direct (Non stop) between the cities, depending on which departure you pick the bus might stop in Antwerp, Brussels, Rotterdam, Ghent or other cities, the stops are usually very short (just to load / drop off passengers) when you travel from London, you can get off (by ticket to those cities) when you travel from continent you can buy ticket to London from those cities.

NOTE: keep in mind this bus route has several border crossings so make sure to bring the necessary documents, otherwise the bus company might have to leave you at the border.
