Airport Bus Murcia

IMPORTANT: Murcia-San Javier Airport is replaced (after several delays) by the new Región de Murcia International Airport, opened on 15 January 2019. Murcia-San Javier Airport now operates only as military airport.

Murcia Airport known as San Javier Airport is a military airport located 27km southeast of Murcia, in San Javier, Spain. Since it is a small international airport, featuring seasonal flights mostly to United Kingdom, in 2016 it handled only 1.1 million passengers.

Due to the airport’s size, public transport is not extensive.

Bus: The bus connecting the airport to Santiago de la Ribera bus stop is not very frequent. It departs only 3 times a day in the afternoon, so we hope you will get lucky enough that your flight coincides with one of the departures.

    • The bus departs from Santiago de la Ribera bus station at 13:25, 16:15 and 18:25.
  • The journey takes approximately 20-25 min.

Taxi services: In case you have missed those rare bus departures, taxi is the only option for reaching the city centre. There is a taxi rank at the airport. You will have to pay 3,50€ for pick-up at the airport and 0,50€ in case you have luggage. The average cost of taking a taxi to Murcia is 55€.

Transfer: If you don’t like riding in a bus and hesitate to take a taxi, consider booking a private transfer which will wait for you at the airport and take you to your hotel or wherever you need to go. The transfer company will send a professional driver to pick you up. You can even pre-order a child safety seat if you’re travelling with a child.

Renting a car at Murcia airport: For those of you who would like to reach the city and explore the area on their own, the best option is to rent a car directly at the airport. There are only three car rental companies there, Goldcar, Europcar and Firefly. Save time and book your car online.

Renting a bus at Murcia airport: For bigger groups of passengers, we advise you to rent a bus at the airport. However, it is necessary to book it online, so the bus rental companies have enough time to inform you on the meeting point and all other information.

FAQ – bus and transport from Murcia airport

I arrive late at the airport. Will it be a problem for me to get to the city?

Well, it is not simple. Your only options are bus which departs three times a day in the afternoon or a taxi which is quite expensive, but you can take it at any time of the day.

I have an early morning departure from the airport, are there any airport hotels I can stay at?

Yes, the closest hotels are Castillo de Mar 12 km away and Husa 525 hotel, for which you will have to pay 11-15€ in a taxi. They offer a full service, cheap prices and cozy accommodation.

I would like to visit Murcia in between flights. Is that possible?

Yes, but it will cost you a great deal, approximately 100€ for both directions in taxi since you probably won’t catch the buses.

Can I exchange money at the airport to pay for my transfer?

Yes, you can exchange money at the airport, but we recommend you to bring money already with you in order to avoid low currency rates.

I am continuing my journey outside Murcia. Are there any direct lines to other destinations?

From the airport no, but once you reach Santiago de la Ribera bus station in Murcia, you can visit many cities nearby, such as Benidorm, Villamartin, Alicante and much more.
