FAQ – bus and transport from Vienna airport

Q: I arrive late at the airport. Will it be a problem for me to get to the city?

A: No, the airport is well connected to the city centre. You have many lines available throughout the day, but if you still don’t catch any of it, you can always take a taxi service.

Q: I have an early morning departure from the airport, are there any airport hotels I can stay at?

A: Yes, NH Wien Airport is at the distance of 0.6 km. If you don’t like that hotel, a bit further (2.7 km) are two other:EuroHotel Airport Vienna and Azimut EuroHotel Airport Vienna.

Q: I would like to spend one day in Vienna in between flights. Is that possible?

A: Yes, of course. The best way to do so is to choose one of the means of public transportation to avoid high taxi prices. If you don’t want to carry your luggage with you, you can easily leave it at the airport since there are two baggage service centres at the airport, located in the check-in areas of terminal 1 and terminal 3, opened from 05:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Q: If i need to go to destination which has no direct bus connection from the airport, what the best way of travelling?

A: If you need to travel to e.g Salzburg, Linz, Klagenfurt in Austria or international destinations like e.g Munich, Zagreb or Ljubljana you have two options, one is to continue by train from the main train station in Vienna, other options is to continue your trip from one of the 3 major bus stations in Vienna, be aware that not all bus stations have the same connections.

Q: Can I exchange the money at the airport to pay for my transfer?

A: Yes, there are several exchange offices and ATMs at the airport, working 24/7, but it would be better to exchange the money before the trip and have some euros on you since the rate will be a lot higher on the spot and no currency other than euro is accepted.

    Hi
I am staying at the K and K Palais Hotel in Rudolfsplatz.
What bus should I take upon arriving to the airport?
Can I buy the Vienna Pass in airport?
Can I buy bus tickets online or better at airport?
    Thanks!
    Fawn

    • Melani Grubić Mikulić   •

      Dear Fawn,

The easiest way to reach K and K Palais Hotel is to take VAL 2 train (departs every 30 mins) from the airport to Wien Morzinplatz stop. The hotel is located 300m from the stop. As for the bus tickets and Vienna Pass, we recommend buying them online.

      Best regards!

    Hello,
I am arriving to Vienna in May and I have 14 hours lay over. I would like to take the opportunity to tour the city without missing my connecting flight. Any suggestions? I learnt that there is a BIG BUS hop on hop off bus which is good way to see the city for the first timer, affordable and it sounds convenient. But I do not see any information if the BIG BUS is available from the airport?

    – What is the best rout to take the BIG BUS city tour
    – Where does the BIG BUD starts from, or is it possible to catch it at any one of the 20 stops.
    – Are tickets available to purchase on board of the BUS?

    Thank you

    • Melani   •

      Dear Tom,

Unfortunately, we do not have any information regarding Big Bus bus but You can check our city guide for Vienna and see what to visit in Vienna. Although it’s a three-day guide, I’m sure You will find some useful information.

I am arriving in August 19th and I need to arrive to the flemmings selection hotel. I’ve been told to reach to Rathaus station and from there to walk for about 2 minutes and I will find the hotel nearby. But, what is the best and easiest way to reach the Rathaus stop?

P.S.: I am carrying lagguage, so the least the stops the better.

    • Melani   •

      Dear Wafaa,

The best way to reach Your accommodation is by taking RJ train to Vienna Central Station and then take bus line 13A to Theater in der Josefstadt bus stop. From there it takes two minutes by foot to Your hotel.

      Best regards!

      Melani, GBB Team
