Marseilles Airport FAQs

How far is Marseille airport from the city?

The airport is about 27 kilometers away from the city center.

I arrive late at the airport. Will it be a problem for me to get to the city?

No, the shuttle bus is very frequent (every 30 minutes), but in case you missed them all, you can always call an official airport taxi which operates 24/7. During the night, the price for the ride to Marseille is 60€.

I would like to spend one day in Marseille in between flights. Is that possible?

Yes, of course. The best way to do so is to take the shuttle bus which takes you directly from the airport to the city center (St. Charles train station) and it is the most convenient way of transportation. If you don’t want to carry your luggage with you all day, simply leave it in the luggage storage at the airport for the price of 15€ a day. The storage is located at terminal 1, right before the security area.

I am continuing my journey outside Marseille. Are there any direct lines from the airport to other cities?

Of course. There is a wide range of direct lines to other cities, such as Nice, Toulon, Saint Tropez, Cannes, and others. You can check the timetable for each city on the official website of Marseille Airport, or you can check the most popular bus routes at getbybus.com e.g. Marseilles to Cannes, Marseilles to Montpellier.

Can I exchange the money at the airport to pay for my transfer?

Yes, there are several exchange offices and ATMs at the airport, working 24/7, but it would be better to exchange the money before the trip and have some euros on you since the rate will be a lot higher on the spot and no currency other than euro is accepted.

hi arriving at Marseille airport on the 14th July. I would like to take the shuttle bus to the train station in Marseille.
    Should I book in advance
Is it easy to find the bus station from the airport
When I arrive at station will there be taxis to take us to our hotel( Hotel Dieu)
What’s the likely cost of taxi from station to hotel
    Thanks

    • Melani   •     Author

      Dear Helen,

You can either book the ticket for shuttle online or buy it directly at the airport. The shuttle bus will take You to Marseille Gare Saint-Charles (train station). Generally, there should be taxis waiting in front of the station. Your accommodation is around 2 kilometres from the station so I assume it should not cost more than €10. In any case, please check the price with the driver before getting in the taxi to avoid being overpriced.

      Best regards!

Flying in to Marseille 7/13and need to get to Aix and flying out Monday 7/16. Ant tips would be appreciated!

    • Melani   •     Author

      Dear Angie,

You can either go to Aix-En-Provence – Beauvall (one of Aix’s districts but it’s a bit outside the city centre) directly from Marseille Airport by LER17. Or You can combine Ouibus shuttle to Marseille train station (Gare Routière Saint-Charles) and then from Marseille to Aix-En-Provence.

      Best regards!

Hi, I plan to arrive in Marseille Provence and take the free shuttle to Vitrolles Aéroport Marseille-Provence TER (Airport) trainstation. From there take the train to Toulon. Do you recommend this option? Is there a schedule available for this shuttle? Why is this option not mentioned on this site?

    • Melani   •     Author

      Dear Michel,

It’s true, there is a free shuttle bus to Vitrolles train station but we didn’t put it in the blog post because there’s no regular schedule for this shuttle. The shuttle departures from Marseille Airport are in accordance with trains passing through Vitrolles. You can take a risk and opt for Vitrolles but I would recommend to go to the main train station in Marseille because it has more departures and schedules.

      Best regards!

is it easy to get a bus/coach from the Airport to the Cruise Terminal? Any help/comments would be great thanks

    • Melani   •     Author

      Dear Shirley,

There is no direct line from the airport to the cruise port. What I suggest is to take a shuttle to the central station (St Charles) and then take a taxi (it should not cost more than €10) or take a metro but you’ll need to transfer once.

      Best regards!

Please we are returning our car tomorrow July 21 at Marseille airport. We need to get to Avignon Central station that same day. I see there is a shuttle from the airport to the TER station. Does TER have a direct trip? Can the tickets be purchased at the Airport from platform #5? Than go directly to platform #3 at the TER train station. Is this correct?

      Dear Bev,

yes, you can reach TER station with a shuttle bus from the airport. There is a direct train from TER station to Gare d’Avignon Centre. The tickets can be purchased at the airport from SNCF vending machines, directly at the train station, or online on SNCF’s official website.

Hi I am hoping to stay at Aparthotel Adagio Marseille Timone, 21 Chemin de l’Armee d’afrique, 13005, Marseille. If I get the shuttle bus from the airport where is the nearest stop to my accommodation?

    • Maja   •

      Hi Carrie,

there are more options for getting to your accommodation, however, they all include combining more modes of transport.
The most common option is to take bus no. 15 to get to the train station to take a train to Marseille Saint-Charles and then switch to a train to Toulon, but exit on Marseille-Blancarde station.

      Best,
      GBB Team

    • Maja   •

      Hi,

yes, there are multiple combinations, but in all cases, you need to switch several buses.
Maybe the shortest option would be combining bus lines L040, LER 25 and LER 22.

I have bought an online return ticket for the bus L91 from Marseilles airport to St Charles Center train station. However, when I saved the ticket in my apple wallet I have seen that the origin is Marseilles Center St. Charles and the destination is Marseille Airport. I don’t know why this happened and the destination now became the origin.
Will that be a problem if I use the ticket to start my journey at the airport?

    Thank you

    • Maja   •

      Hi Christos,

since it looks like you didn’t buy the ticket on our website (we don’t sell tickets for that route at the moment) I suggest you send an inquiry to the company from which you bought your ticket.
I assume they should have customer support or some other way to solve this problem or tell you the best option.

    Hello,

I’m flying into Marseille from Naples at 8:50am on Oct 1 and then travelling on to Avignon TGV from Vitrolles Marseille Provence Airport. How much time would you recommend between landing and departing the train station? Given we have to collect bags and catch a transfer, do you think a 10:29am departure is cutting it too fine?

    Thanks,

    Tim

    • Maja   •

      Hi Tim,

according to what you described, that should be enough time.
However, we cannot tell you with certainty since it depends on many factors.

      Best,

  38. Vesna   •

    Hello,

We are arriving to Marseille Provance airport late at night at 23.30h, do you think we can catch the last shuttle bus departing at 00.10? We only have cabin luggage. What is the quickest way to reach the platform with the shuttle bus and buy the tickets?

    • Maja   •

      Hi Vesna,

you should be able to catch that bus departing at 00:10. But still, it is good to consider other options such as a taxi or private transfer, just in case.

      Best,

it would be best if you could contact the bus carrier directly regarding this.
Each carrier has its own rules when it comes to storing bicycles. It also largely depends on the number of passengers and luggage on that departure.

How long will the trip from Cruise Ship Terminal to the Marseille Airport please? We will be departing the ship around 9.30am or earlier if possible, would it be best to take a taxi transfer or taxi to the train and then train to the airport? Our flight is at 1pm. Thank you.

    • Maja   •

      Hi Lesley,

the approximate journey from MPCT to Marseille Airport is about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
But that is the amount of time if combining multiple means of transport such as 2 bus lines and a train.
If you want to ensure there are no unexpected delays or any other unpredictable circumstances, I would suggest taking a taxi for the first part of the journey.
Once you come to the train station, you need to catch a train line L091, which will take you to the airport in less than 30 minutes.

We are arriving in Marseille in a cruise and thinking of staying there and Aix-en Provence in October 2023. Our flight leaves at 5:50 AM. What is the best transportation to use to make sure we get there in time? From Marseille or Aix-en Provence.

    • Maja Tramontana   •

      Hi Daniel,

In your case, the safest option is to book a taxi or a private transfer to the airport.

Bonjour.

      Cordialement,

    • Maja Tramontana   •

      Hi Terry,

I am arriving in Marseille MRS on the 25th of July at 19.55What is the best way to get to Arles when is the last train/bus.
I could only see a connection at 20.20 is that from the airport or train station do you think I would be able to make the connection?

    • Maja Tramontana   •

      Hi Rose,

catching the last departure at 20:20 will be a challenge, I agree.
In case there are no other options, you can always consider taking a taxi or arranging a private transfer, especially if you’re travelling with more people.

Hello, we arrive at Marseille aiport at 9:15pm. I guess we would be ready to leave the airport at 10pm and we are looking at going to the old port of marseille. Is there a shuttle bus from at this time or is there a better way?

    • Maja Tramontana   •

      Hi,

shuttle buses operate even after midnight, however, they take you to the Marseille St. Charles train station.
From there, you need to switch to bus line 35 (for the additional 10-minute ride).
However, this line doesn’t seem to be operating that late at night, but you can always continue by taking a taxi for this final part.

    • Maja Tramontana   •

      Hi,

Unfortunately, the bus line Marseille Airport – Marseille is currently not available on our website.
You can go to the official website of the carrier in order to book the tickets.

Hello. I will buy 1 week public transport ticket for Marseille. In order to reach Saint Charles train station from Marseille Provence Airport, I first want to take a shuttle to Vitrolles Aéroport and then take the TER train to Saint Charles train station. Does the 1-week ticket I bought provide free transportation on these lines? Is there an extra charge for the TER train from Vitrolles Aéroport to Saint Charles Train station? Thanks.

    • Maja Tramontana   •

      Hi Erhan,

the pass should be valid for all transportation lines that you mentioned.
If you want to make sure, you double-check it at the information desk once you land at the airport.
