Airport bus Graz

Graz airport, also known as Thalerhof airport, is located 10 km south of Graz city center. It is a minor international airport in Austria and mostly offers charter flights to European holiday destinations and some city-break destinations.

Travelling to and from the airport doesn’t take much time, due to its vicinity, but since it is a minor, mainly seasonal airport, there aren’t many transport options to choose from.

How to get from Graz Airport to Graz

There are two types of public transportation lines between the airport and the city centre: the bus and the train. In both cases, the price of the ticket for single journey is 2.20 euro, and the 1-day ticket costs 4.80 euro.

Bus

Two bus lines run between the airport and the city center. It is easy to find the bus stop because it’s located right outside the terminal (arrival area). The buses number 630 and 631 will take you directly to downtown Graz – Jakominiplatz, in just 20 minutes. These are the direct, non-stop lines. You can buy the ticket on the bus, directly from the driver. Unfortunately, these lines are not very frequent, but at least every hour and a half one of them should pass through the terminal.

Train

Perhaps the quickest way to reach the city center. The railway line passes next to the airport building, so just leave the terminal and follow the signs for about 300 meters and you’ll be at the platform. Trains between Graz airport and the main station depart at least once every hour. The train line you need is S5 and it goes in northern direction towards Graz. In about 10-15 minutes you will be at the main station (Hauptbahnhof) which is close to the city center.

NOTE: The ticket has to be purchased before boarding the train, at the machine on the platform.

Transfer

If you wish to have more comfort, or you have a lot of suitcases, you can always book the door-to-door transfer to your accommodation in Graz area.

  • If you wish to pre-order a transfer, you can do that through a transfer company (even online), a professional driver will wait for you in the arrivals area with a name sign, and don’t worry if your plane is late, the transfer company will monitor your flight arrival.
  • If you travel with smaller kids, you can order child seat

Taxi services

Taxis at Graz airport are parked right outside the passenger terminal, right next to the arrival area. The price for a taxi from the airport to the center is around 20 euro.

If you are a large group arriving to the airport, you might consider renting a bus prior to your arrival. Buses are offered by several bus rental companies in the area.

I arrive late at the airport. Will it be a problem for me to get to the city?

No, the last direct bus from the airport is at 23:45 (11:45 PM) and transfers and taxis run 24/7.

I have an early morning departure from the Graz airport, are there any airport hotels I can stay at?

No, unfortunately there aren’t any hotels at walking distance to the airport, but there are a few hotels located nearby, 2 km from the airport, near the highway.

I am continuing my journey outside Graz. Are there any direct bus or train lines to other destinations?

No, unfortunately there aren’t any train and intercity bus lines. You have to reach Graz main train or bus station first and then take a train or bus to other cities such as Vienna, Maribor, etc. The same applies for international lines, e.g. to Zagreb, Zadar, Prague, Krakow, Berlin, Belgrade, Budapest plus hundreds of other international destinations. As mentioned above, the central stations are easily reachable by public transport.
