Graz airport, also known as Thalerhof airport, is located 10 km south of Graz city center. It is a minor international airport in Austria and mostly offers charter flights to European holiday destinations and some city-break destinations.
Travelling to and from the airport doesn’t take much time, due to its vicinity, but since it is a minor, mainly seasonal airport, there aren’t many transport options to choose from.
Public transport: There are two types of public transportation lines between the airport and the city centre: the bus and the train. In both cases, the price of the ticket for single journey is 2.20 euro, and the 1-day ticket costs 4.80 euro.
Bus – two bus lines run between the airport and the city center. It is easy to find the bus stop because it’s located right outside the terminal (arrival area). The buses number 630 and 631 will take you directly to downtown Graz – Jakominiplatz, in just 20 minutes. These are the direct, non-stop lines. You can buy the ticket on the bus, directly from the driver. Unfortunately, these lines are not very frequent, but at least every hour and a half one of them should pass through the terminal.
Train – perhaps the quickest way to reach the city center. The railway line passes next to the airport building, so just leave the terminal and follow the signs for about 300 meters and you’ll be at the platform. Trains between Graz airport and the main station depart at least once every hour. The train line you need is S5 and it goes in northern direction towards Graz. In about 10-15 minutes you will be at the main station (Hauptbahnhof) which is close to the city center. NOTE: The ticket has to be purchased before boarding the train, at the machine on the platform.
