Banja Luka International Airport (BNX) is also known as Mahovljani Airport, named after the village where it is located. It is an international airport serving Banja Luka, the second largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the capital of the entity Republika Srpska. It is located 18 kilometers northeast of the city’s railway station and also, near the exit to the highway Banja Luka – Gradiška. After the Sarajevo and Tuzla ones, it is the biggest airport in the country.

Its construction began in 1976 when it was supposed to receive and send only domestic flights. But, Banja Luka became Republika Srpska’s capital after the Yugoslav breakup, and Mahovljani Aiport gained international status.

There is a bus operating from BNX to the city center. These shuttle buses are carried by the bus operator Smiljić on the days when there are flights scheduled. They also operate in the opposite direction –  from the “Old Bus station” (Stara autobuska) bus stop to the airport. The ride to the center lasts approximately 35 minutes. Getting from the airport to the city by taxi is a convenient way for those who don’t like using buses. There are three taxi companies offering rides from BNX to the city: Taksi prevoz Milanović, Taxi prevoz Aleksić, and Taksi Dragan. The price of a taxi ride costs between 35 and 45 BAM.
